Sadducees

The Sadducee sect emerged in the period between the two testaments. They were small in number but had great religious and political influence. They denied the resurrection of the dead and believed neither in angels nor in a coming Messiah. Furthermore, they only recognized the five books of Moses as given by God. Like the Pharisees and scribes, they were considered enemies of the Messiah.
