Anonymous Work for God

Bible passages:
Heb 6:10

"God is not unjust to forget your work" (Hebrews 6:10).

When we work for the Lord, other people don't have to know about it or that our name becomes known as a result. It is encouraging that the Lord Jesus personally acknowledges and values every service.

The Bible reports several times about anonymous servants whose names we do not know but whose ministry is written down for all eternity. Their work is not forgotten.

  • The three (for us) unknown heroes of David who fulfill their master's heart's desire at the risk of their lives (2 Sam 23:13-17).
  • The unknown woman from Shunem who had a guest room built for Elisha, the man of God (2 Kings 4:8-17).
  • The unknown Jewish girl who advised her captor Naaman to be healed of his leprosy by Elisha (2 Kings 5:3-14).
  • The unknown woman who anointed the head of the Lord Jesus (Mt 26:6-13). [Note: It is clear from the parallel accounts in Mark 14 and John 12 that this is Mary. It is, however, very interesting why the woman in Matthew 26 remains anonymous].
  • The unknown poor widow who put 100 percent of her possessions in the treasury (Mark 12:41-44).
  • The unknown women who served the Lord Jesus with their possessions (Luke 8:3).
  • The unknown boy who gave his lunch to the Lord to feed at least 5,000 people (John 6:9).
  • The unknown brothers who could be entrusted with financial tasks because of their faithfulness (2 Cor 8:23).

The Lord takes note of every service for Him! Isn't that very encouraging?
