Deception in Our Homes?

Published since 09. Jul. 2025
Bible passages:
2 Timothy 3:6; Titus 1:10,11

2 Timothy 3:6: "For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives."

Titus 1:10, 11: "For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers… whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households."

The devil has two main ways of tempting believers:

  • Either he offers up attractive, appealing, and impressive preachers to whom believers go, thus luring them out of their homes to him.
  • Or he sends these seducers into the homes.

The latter is probably the most dangerous. We read about it twice:

  • 2 Timothy 3:6: "For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives."
  • Titus 1:10, 11: "For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers… whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households."

This is how the devil wants to deceive the "hearts of the simple" (Rom 16:18) and "entice unstable souls" (2 Pet 2:14).

While this often still happened literally at the beginning of Christianity (deceivers went into houses), today, they often no longer ring our doorbells to offer their seductions there. Today, this usually happens far more subtly and subliminally: through the internet.

If you are on YouTube, for example, you are often shocked at how many sermons are recommended to you by seducers. Completely unfiltered, unchecked, uncontrolled, and unbiblical statements can end up in the homes of believers. Let us watch out for this tactic of the devil to infiltrate our homes lest we turn away from the truth!

We are responsible for who we open our front door to – but also for what we click on online!
