10Cursed is the one who is remiss

in doing the work of the LORD,

and cursed is he who withholds

his sword from bloodshed.

Jeremiah 48:10

A serious but, at the same time, challenging and motivating verse!

God’s work – in whatever form – is so important and urgent that laziness, procrastination, half-heartedness, and sloppiness are bad in His eyes. The Lord wants to see zeal, dedication, full commitment, utmost concentration, and devotion.

For example, it is not enough just to have good intentions for working in the kingdom of God. When the Lord lays a task on our hearts, we should not reject it, but neither should we put it off. We should do it carefully.

An example of lax action would be someone who was asked for a Bible by an unbeliever but only brought it over after three months. A brother who is recognized as an elder but doesn’t visit anyone because Saturdays are taken up with nice outings. A sister who has taken on the important task of Sunday school work but only invests 1 minute in the preparation. Someone who puts off spiritual tasks for whatever reason.

Let us take the Lord’s urgent statement seriously!
