The Foolish Burden Bearer

Let us make sure that we really get rid of the burdens and cares that we put on the Lord.

There was a man who was traveling alone in his chariot when he met another man with a heavy load on his back. He asked him if he would like to ride with him. He accepted the kind offer and climbed into the cart – but kept his backpack on.

"Why," the driver asked him, "don't you take the bale off and put it in front of you?" – "Oh, dear sir," he responded, "it's so kind of you to take me along, and I don't want to put too much strain on your cart and your horses, and I think I can carry the bale myself if I'm only allowed to ride in your cart." –The driver replied, "But please, dear man, don't you realize that my cart has to carry your load whether you have it on your back or not? You would do much better to take it off your shoulders so that you can really feel the relief.”

So do it, my friend; when you cast your burden on the Lord, take it off your shoulders. Why would you want to carry it when your God has agreed to carry it for you?
