Three Crosses – Two Groups
“And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.” (Luke 23:33)
It is remarkable that on that memorable day, there were only three crosses on the Calvary. Is it not likely that, otherwise, more death sentences would have been carried out at the same time?
In any case, this trilogy of crosses on Calvary teaches us something very important: there is a Savior, and He is the center of humanity, which is divided into two groups. On the one side are those who reject the Savior to the last breath. Their part can only be the judgment of God. On the other side are those who turn to ChristA title of the Lord Jesus, which is also used as an epithet; Messiah (Hebrew) and Christ (Greek) mean "anointed one". The title refers to the fact that Jesus is... More. Their part can only be the glory of God.
So we see in these three crosses:
- The Man in the middle died for sinners – a dying Savior!
- A criminal died in his sins – a dying sinner!
- A criminal died saved from his sins – a dying saint!
