Holiest place

The Holy of Holies was a windowless, dark room in the sanctuary of the Tabernacle, or later the temple. It was located behind the second curtain (cf. Ex 26:33; 1 Kings 6:16 and Heb 9:3) and was the dwelling place of God. Only the high priest was allowed to enter once a year with blood (Lev 16:11) to make atonement at the Ark of the Covenant, which was located in this room.
