New Covenant

Unlike the covenant at Mount Sinai, the new covenant is a covenant without conditions on the part of man. God will establish this covenant with the house of Judah and the house of Israel. He will place his law within them and write it on their hearts. He will be their God, forgive their trespasses, and remember their sins no more (Jer 31:31-34). The foundation for this covenant was also laid on the cross. At the institution of the Lord’s Supper, the Lord spoke of his blood as the “blood of the new covenant” (Mt 26:28; 1 Cor 11:25), and he is “the mediator of a new covenant” (Heb 9:15; 12:24). From these passages it becomes clear that, although the establishment of this covenant with Israel is still future, God is already acting today according to the principle of this covenant, namely according to the principle of sovereign grace, by indicating the ground on which he can be with his people. The Lord Jesus is the mediator through whom all blessings are secured.
