Only begotten

"Only begotten" is an honorary title. It does not necessarily have to do with birth. The word describes a person who is unique and cannot be compared to anyone else. Isaac was Abraham's only begotten son (Heb 11:17). The only begotten Son, however, is Christ, the unique and incomparable eternal Son of the eternal Father (e.g., John 1:18). God sent this only begotten Son into the world (1 John 4:9).
