Overseer

The ministry of the overseer in the church (cf., e.g., Phil 1:1; Tit 1:7) is closely linked to that of the elder. An overseer is a "watchman" or "guardian." Overseers have the task of shepherding and leading the flock. It is not a gift (which always extends beyond the locality) but a local office that someone holds. The Ministry of Overseers still exists today, but not officially appointed overseers.
