Sabbath

The last day of the week that God had set aside as a day of rest in the OT because He rested from His work after the 6-day work of creation. This day was, therefore, a special testimony to creation, which had emerged from God's hand as His work. God's people were to remember this again and again. They were to honor God as their Creator (Ex 31:17). Furthermore, this day of rest points to God's future rest in the 1000-year kingdom, when creation will be brought into a state that corresponds to God's thoughts under the reign of the Lord Jesus. God wants his redeemed to share in this rest. The Sabbath commandment was only given to the Jews but not to Christians.
