Sheol

Sheol is the Old Testament (Hebrew) word for the New Testament word Hades. However, it is often used in the OT in a broader sense for grave, pit, etc. It is often used in the Old Testament for the abode of the souls of the dead, whereby no distinction was made between Hades (the place for the souls of unbelievers) and Paradise (the place for the souls of believers).
