Substitution

This is connected with the sacrifices, especially the sin offering. Thus, the Passover was sacrificed on behalf of or in place of the firstborn in Israel so that they did not have to die. Christ died on behalf of every believer: he gave his life as a ransom for many (Mk 10:45). He bore our sins in his body and suffered the judgment we deserved on our behalf so that we are freed from it.
