Transfiguration

This word indicates the change that took place in the outward appearance of Jesus in the incident on the holy mountain. The Lord announced this with the words that some would see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom, the “kingdom of God come in power.” Matthew reports that Christ was “transfigured before them”; “and his face shone as the sun, and his garments became white as the light” (Mt 17:2). Peter says that he became an eyewitness to “his majesty” (2 Pet 1:16). It was therefore a brief preview of the Lord in His glory, as He is now in heaven and as He will be in His kingdom.
