Christ – the Holy One

“Behold, I was born in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Ps 51:7). In this verse, David speaks of being a sinner. When his mother conceived him, it was “in sin”: a sinner was conceived. When David saw the light of day, he was born in unrighteousness. A sinner came into the world. And what David says about himself applies to all people: Everyone who is born of a woman is unclean and unrighteous (Job 15:14; 25:4).

In Luke 1, on the other hand, we read: “And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and power from the Most High will overshadow you; therefore also that holy thing which is to be born will be called the Son of God'” (v. 35). Here an angel made it clear to the Virgin Mary that Jesus would be conceived in her womb by the Holy Spirit and not by a sinful human being. When Jesus was born, “the Holy One” was born, who was called the Son of God.

We humans are sinners: the unclean come forth from the unclean (Job 14:14). But in Jesus, this rule was broken by the power of the Spirit of God – the man Jesus Christ is completely pure and holy. Even the unclean demons felt compelled to recognize Him on earth as the “Holy One of God” (Mark 1:24). And because He is the Holy and Righteous One, He was able to make atonement for the unholy and unrighteous on the cross and thus lay the foundation for our sanctification. Glory be to Him!

A silent glory: Christ was silent

Jesus spoke with unmatched authority—yet His silence was even more striking. Falsely accused and abused, He did not defend Himself, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy. In humble submission to the Father, His holy silence testifies powerfully and stirs adoration.
