But we see:

Atonement Accomplished

The high priest accomplished atonement for sins on the cross at Golgotha. That had nothing to do with the Aaronic priesthood. For that was carried out by those who belonged to the tribe of Levi. And they kept offering new sacrifices again and again. Christ (coming from the tribe of Judah) offered one fully valid sacrifice once. He gave himself.

Priestly Service in Heaven

The high priest Jesus carries out his priestly service in heaven today. He is the Son of God in heaven, with all his human experiences. This enables him to have compassion (Hebrews 4:15), to help (Hebrews 2:18), and to save completely (Hebrews 7:25). He backs us up in the tests and challenges here on earth. This is for those who want to walk the path of obedience. He comforts us, warns us, strengthens us, and draws our eyes to himself. This keeps us from growing weary.

Representation Before God

The high priest also appears before God. He appears in the presence of God for our benefit (Hebrews 9:24). He is there to intercede for us (Hebrews 7:25). We are weak people, often in great need. And we offer weak worship. But because our priest identifies with our prayers, they are pleasing to God. That gives us confidence to enter the sanctuary (Hebrews 4:16 and 10:10). And even when we do not come to God, the high priest continually intercedes for us. This ensures that grace and mercy flow to us.

We should be more grateful for this priestly service in heaven!
