Do All in His Name
“Whatsoever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17).
Here I get the whole course of everyday life. Constantly, there are difficulties that I find in passing through this worldThe word is used with different meanings. It can mean the whole of humanity (Gen 41:57) or the created world (Rom 1:20), but also a moral system that is opposed... More. I say, “Shall I do this thing or that, or not?” I am uncertain as to the right course, or I may find great hindrances to doing what I think to be right. There might be something between me and ChristA title of the Lord Jesus, which is also used as an epithet; Messiah (Hebrew) and Christ (Greek) mean "anointed one". The title refers to the fact that Jesus is... More, and until that is put away, I shall never have certainty as to my path. Therefore, “whatsoever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” This will settle nine hundred and ninety-nine cases out of a thousand. If you are questioning whether you shall do a thing or not, just ask yourself, “Am I going to do it in the name of the Lord Jesus?” It will settle it at once.
Therefore, if a person says, “What harm is there in my doing such and such a thing?” I ask, “Are you going to do it in the name of the Lord Jesus?” Perhaps it may be something which you will answer, “Of course not.” Then it is settled immediately. It is the test of the state of the heart. There is a constant uniform rule which clearly judges every path and circumstance. Simply: Am I doing it in the name of the Lord Jesus?
